Studying and writing effectively
Not everybody likes writing and many professions do not require writing abilities. Nevertheless writing can be an interesting hobby and very helpful privately even though one does not require special writing abilities professionally.
Some 20 years ago there was a big literacy problem in the US. Due to the technological revolution that brought video games the video recorder, young people were less and less interested in learning how to read and write. By the mid 80’s the literacy problem was a major one.
Students would actually graduate from high school without knowing how to read and write and had not many problems finding a job. The thing have however changed by the mid 90’s and the internet revolution, knowing how to read and write was once again popular amongst kids as it still is today.
Back in 1987 a high or middle school kid didn’t need to necessarily know how to read and write in order to be accepted by other kids but if in 2008 a kid doesn’t know how to write an e mail or a SMS he or she would be considered a total looser and would have a hard time fitting in today’s adolescent society. Apart from the requirements of the modern age writing can also be a very useful tool in one’s private life.
Many psychologists consider writing a journal or a diary, a very useful stress relieving tool as well as a form of therapy.
And of course whoever had a diary once, knows about the feeling when one can glances back at the past and the memories are refreshed as if it was yesterday. Writing can also be very useful in home economics, not everybody likes doing it but one’s home can be organized in a much better way if one tends to write down his or her responsibilities and duties along with a schedule.
Such a duty and responsibility plan can also help reduce problems between spouses and/or room mates. If there is such a plan it is much more difficult for the slackly room mate or husband to avoid going shopping or doing the dishes but on the other hand it is also more difficult for the more responsible spouse or roommate to play the martyr card and avoid responsibilities due to the fact that the first one is avoiding his or hers on a bigger scale. As a matter of fact such unofficial contracts could help bring harmony to many places of living and or working even though the place or work itself does not require any writing abilities from the people.
One of the most important fields where writing can be helpful is the planning of a career or setting general goals in life: Setting goals helps you to accomplish what is really important to you and keeps you motivated.
